How elements are arranged in page site layout is usually called site layout.
The main elements that appear on website pages are:
- Menus or menu (required at least one), controls that help to navigate the site. Usually menus also other controls are located grouped in certain areas which usually are called sidebars. Sometimes menu / menus can be arranged also at the top / bottom of the page.
- Content part-the part of content which concentrate the most information without which existence loses site raison d'être
- Interactive features - they can be more functional types: login forms, buttons, forms, email, cursors, etc.
There are three main types of layouts:
When I refer to columns I don't refer to number of columns of text content in the site but the columns that have functional role in the structure of the site. Since a picture is worth a thousand words I will illustrate this with an image.
